More than 34,000 jobs are generated each year in Alaska by the oil and gas industry. These jobs are some of the best in Alaska, paying an average salary of $96,507 in 2004 (the highest of any sector in the state). By comparison, the statewide annual earnings average was $37,860.

In addition to employing thousands each year, the oil and gas industry makes significant investments in permanent facilities and infrastructure throughout Alaska. Over $50 billion has been invested in North Slope and Cook Inlet infrastructure alone, and each year the industry invests more than $1 billion to explore for new fields, increase production and improve technologies.
