Juneau, AK – The Alaska Oil and Gas Association (AOGA) issued the following statement in response to the U.S. Department of the Interior publishing a notice of intent related to oil and gas development in the National Petroleum Reserve–Alaska (NPR-A):
“AOGA appreciates Secretary Burgum and the Trump Administration for making responsible development in the NPR-A a priority and for recognizing the critical role Alaska plays in America’s energy and national security future,” said Steve Wackowski, AOGA President and CEO. “We also appreciate the leadership of Governor Dunleavy and Alaska’s congressional delegation for their continued advocacy for Alaska resource development and for advancing provisions in the One Big Beautiful Bill that support responsible development and investment in the Petroleum Reserve.”
NPR-A is an area of immense strategic importance for both Alaska and the nation. At a time of growing global instability and increasing energy demand, responsible development of Alaska’s vast resources — under some of the highest environmental and operational standards in the world — strengthens American energy security, supports Alaska jobs, and reduces reliance on foreign sources of energy.
“The renewed investment and activity occurring across Alaska’s North Slope today is possible because Alaska has maintained a stable and competitive investment climate for the past 13 years under the current tax system,” continued Wackowski. “The record NPR-A lease sale, new projects moving forward, and expected increases in TAPS throughput demonstrate that stable and predictable policies attract investment, support jobs, grow production, and strengthen America’s energy security.”
AOGA will be engaging constructively in this process with key stakeholders, including North Slope communities, Alaska Native Corporations and Tribes, industry partners, and government agencies as the rulemaking moves forward.
