AOGA statement on historic ANWR lease sale

ANCHORAGE- The Alaska Oil and Gas Association issued the following statement following
today’s historic lease sale in the 10-02 area of ANWR:

“Today’s lease sale was a historic event, and decades in the making,” said Kara Moriarty, AOGA
president and CEO. “We are grateful to our Congressional delegation, both current and previous,
for their years of work to get Alaska to this point, as the majority of Alaskans have long
supported development in ANWR. While the results may not have been as robust as we might
have expected, industry still supports future access to this area. Today’s sale reflects the brutal
economic realities the oil and gas industry continues to face after the unprecedented events of
2020, coupled with ongoing regulatory uncertainty.”

“The global need for oil and gas remains and is predicted to persist for at least another 30 to 40
years. ANWR still has a role to play in helping the country remain energy independent while
providing future economic opportunities for thousands of Alaskans. The state’s involvement
through the Alaska Industrial Development and Export Authority (AIDEA) helps reduce future
uncertainty, and keeps the process of exploring and developing ANWR moving forward.”

AOGA is a professional trade association whose mission is to foster the long-term viability of
the oil and gas industry in Alaska for the benefit of all Alaskans. More information about the
